Developed through partnerships with the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Canadian Museum of Nature, these two guides highlight the remarkable diversity of freshwater mussels and fishes found in the Maritimes. Each provides images and key information to support identification and promote conservation awareness across the region.

Freshwater Mussels of Maritime Canada: A Flashcard Guide

A joint project between the New Brunswick Museum, the Canadian Museum of Nature, and the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans, this guide in English, French and two Maritime Indigenous languages provides high quality photographic images and basic information on the identification and conservation status of each of the 11 species of freshwater mussel species recorded from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Freshwater Fishes of Conservation Significance in Maritime Canada: A Flashcard Guide

A joint project between the New Brunswick Museum and the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans, this guide in English, French and two Maritime Indigenous languages provides watercolor images and basic information on the identification and conservation status of 18 species (plus 1 form) of freshwater fish recorded from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island that are of conservation concern. The species covered include non-native fish, fish that serve as intermediate hosts for threatened freshwater mussels, and native fish that are in decline or poorly known.
