The Franklin Exploration

Join the New Brunswick Museum as we present a rare opportunity to experience one of Canada’s most enduring mysteries up close

The Franklin Exploration Pop-up Exhibit, a three-year national project led by Parks Canada and the Royal Ontario Museum, brings together artifacts, video, and interactive displays to retell the story of Sir John Franklin’s ill-fated expedition and the recent discovery of HMS Erebus.

In August 1845, the Franklin Expedition’s two ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, vanished into the Arctic ice, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions that have captivated Canadians for generations. Now, 170 years later, this special exhibit offers a chance to relive the drama and danger of the Franklin Expedition through a unique blend of history, science, and Inuit knowledge.

Explore the expeditions’ hopes and dreams, and the catastrophic events that led to one of the greatest maritime disasters in Canadian history. Featuring rare artifacts, personal accounts, and expert curation, The Franklin Exploration Pop-up Exhibit is a must-see experience that will leave you on the edge of your seat, wondering what really happened to Franklin and his crew.
