You have Questions. We have Answers.
Discover the insights you need.
Why is the Museum Expanding?

The Museum’s displays, programs, collections and staff were housed among several sites in the Saint John region. All of these will be reunited in a revitalized New Brunswick Museum where the collections can be preserved safely and the exhibitions and programs available to visitors.

Where will the new museum be located?

The new museum will be located at its original, historic 1934 site on Douglas Avenue in Saint John, New Brunswick.

Will the new Museum be accessible?

Designed for the future, the new museum will meet the highest accessibility standards and be a welcoming, sustainable museum built for generations to come. Accessible environments both onsite and online will enable all visitors, regardless of location, to engage with their heritage.

Are you working with Indigenous partners?

Yes, we have been actively engaging in discussions with Indigenous leaders, experts, and communities, and this will continue during and after all stages of the project.

How will this project benefit the community?

The revitalized museum will be a community gathering place, educational facility, tourism destination, and economic driver for the entire province. State-of-the-art galleries, experiential learning centres, and research facilities will foster stronger connections among New Brunswickers and our shared heritage.

Has a feasibility study been conducted?

Yes, a feasibility study was conducted for the revitalization and expansion of the New Brunswick Museum. Results indicated that a restored provincial museum was necessary and would be supported by people around the province and beyond.

What is the projected timeline and budget?

The total budget is approximately $141.5 million for site improvements and facilities, as well as enhanced culture, research, and visitor experiences. Funding commitments have been received of $58 million from the provincial government and just under $50 million from the federal government, as well as private contributions. It is expected to be fully operational by 2028.
