In celebration of the 25th Marco Polo Quilters Guild Biennial Quilt Show, the New Brunswick Museum presents “Bouquet of Quilts,” a stunning collection of 12 flower-themed quilts that blossom with meaning.
Chosen from over 400 quilts in the museum’s collection, these exquisite pieces, created between 1867 and 2011, showcase the ingenuity, engineering, and artistry of their makers.
Flowers have long been a universal language, conveying emotions, values, and messages that transcend time and culture. In these quilts, they symbolize love, spirituality, and community, reflecting the lives and stories of the women who stitched them together. From traditional pieced and appliqué techniques to intricate embroidery, each quilt is a testament to its maker’s skill and creativity.
Spanning almost 150 years, “Bouquet of Quilts” also chronicles the evolution of quilting in New Brunswick, from traditional quilting bees to the arrival of commercially available patterns and the rise of guilds. This vibrant textile heritage is a source of pride, revealing the province’s rich cultural tapestry and its place within the broader story of Canadian quilting. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience the beauty and significance of these quilts, on display until September 27, 2019, at the New Brunswick Museum Exhibition Centre.
