Statement from the New Brunswick Museum

The Board of Directors, Staff, Volunteers, and Management of the New Brunswick Museum wish to join with all citizens of New Brunswick expressing our deepest condolences to the Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc First Nation and all other Indigenous Communities for the horrific find of the remains of 215 children at the former Kamloops Residential School in British Columbia.
As a public institution, we support a process which promotes a thorough understanding of the specific sites, policies and responsibilities that surrounded this system which has resulted in generations of trauma amongst Indigenous Communities and the loss of so many innocent lives.
We stand with the rest of our country’s cultural institutions in recognizing the sorrow brought on by these events and honouring these lives lost. We will work earnestly with authorities and First Nations towards bringing attention to these dark chapters in our Country’s history, to develop a mutual understanding of the truth, and we offer our full support and services as requested.
