On June 14, 2025, the New Brunswick Mat Registry officially launched its new website: Hands, Heart and Mind: The Art of Hooked Mats in New Brunswick. With more than 100 active mat hookers and invited guests looking on, the ribbon was cut — and the site went live!

For over two decades, this dedicated and resilient team of volunteers has worked tirelessly to preserve the province’s rich mat hooking history.

To explore this important part of New Brunswick’s heritage—or to learn how to register a hooked mat made more than 25 years ago in the province—visit mats-tapisnb.com.

The New Brunswick Museum has been a proud partner of this meaningful initiative from the start and continues to serve as the keeper of the Registry’s data—now documenting over 600 hooked mats and related objects.

Congratulations to all involved in making this cultural legacy more accessible than ever, and our heartfelt thanks to Lutz Mountain Heritage Museum for hosting this important milestone.
