WHAT:
Tailoring Workshop: 18th Century Men’s Clothing
Learn methods and techniques used in the production of 18th Century men’s clothing with the internationally-renowned maker of historically accurate clothing, during this two day workshop.
WHEN:
Saturday 26th October: 10am – 5pm
Sunday 27th October: 12pm – 5 pm
WHERE: At the New Brunswick Museum, Exhibition Center, Market Square, in the foyer.
REGISTRATION FEE for 2 days Workshop: 80$
ADDITIONAL OTHER FEE: The cost of the kit (depends on the style and size)

HOW IT WORKS:
1) Select one kit among the 6 kits listed below and in which colour & fabric.
2) Take the necessary measurements. For instruction, see the guideline document.
3) Pay your registration fee to the museum: 80$ before Sept 30th. Please call 506 643-2300 or 1-888-268-9595. The museum will take your name, phone number and email.
*A minimum of 6 persons is required for this workshop. If you paid the registration fee and the workshop is cancelled, the museum will reimburse the registration fee.
4) By email, send your kit selection and the measurement sheet to Mr. Cooke at hcooke4@verizon.net
5) Once the workshop if confirmed, you can pay the kit cost to Mr. Cooke directly

SELECTION OF THE KIT
Each kit consists of all the parts of the garment pre-cut to your measure, with a pattern and instructions to guide you, and the thread, buttons and other items needed to complete the coat

BRITISH OR PROVINCIAL (LOYALIST) MILITARY COAT

KIT 1
Enlisted Coat – $ 330 US (409 CA$*)
British style red coarse wool broadcloth soldiers coat with deep blue, green, white, or yellow lapels, collars and cuffs, lined in off white wool bays and provided with pewter buttons.
KIT 2
Officer’s Coat – $ 400 US (496 CA$*)
British style scarlet superfine wool broadcloth officer’s military coat with deep blue, green, white, or yellow lapels, collars and cuffs, lined in off white fine wool shalloon, and provided with silvered or gilt buttons.
CIVILIAN FROCK COATS
This is the most common type of civilian man’s coat worn in North America in the late 1700s. It is a single breasted coat fastened down the front with a single row of worked buttonholes. The coat is available in wool or linen, with pewter, brass, or self covered buttons.
KIT 3
Common Wool Broadcloth Frock Coat – $ 270 US (334 CA$*)
Wool broadcloth coat, lined in wool serge or shalloon.
Available in Madder Red, Brown, Deep Blue, Drab, Full Green, or Black
KIT 4
Superfine Civilian Frock Coat – $ 320 US (397 CA$*)
Gentleman’s coat of velvety superfine wool broadcloth, lined with wool shalloon.
Available in Scarlet, Brown, Deep Blue, Drab, Full Green or Black
KIT 5
Unlined Linen Frock Coat – $ 180 US (224CA$*)
Comfortable summer weight linen coat. Available in brown, blue, white, or natural unbleached linen
GREAT COATS
Great Coats were the overcoat of the 18th century, and could be worn with civilian or military coats. They are warm and comfortable and are even stylish for modern wear.
KIT 6
Greatcoats in broadcloth or bearskin, with partial bays lining – $ 330 US (410 CA$*)
Available in wool broadcloth or a long napped wool bearskin.
Available colours are Madder Red, Deep Blue, Drab, Off White, Green.
Available buttons are: Pewter, Brass, self covered.
