The New Brunswick Museum (NBM) is pleased to announce the selection of four artists for the continuing exhibition series, KNOW YOUR OWN ARTISTS.
The four artist who will have solo exhibitions starting in 2018 are:
Brigitte Clavette (Fredericton), Emilie Grace Lavoie (Edmundston); Ann Manuel (Fredericton) and Vita Plume (Jemseg)
Selected through a jury process, the major solo exhibitions in this series are the continuation of an extremely successful project originally started by the NBM in 1949. Since the series was renewed in 2008, the NBM has featured the work of eight prominent artists from throughout the province. Those exhibitions provided New Brunswickers the opportunity to experience recent work by contemporary visual artists who are having a significant impact within the province and beyond.
Peter J. Larocque, NBM Art Curator, who worked with the artists on each of the previous eight exhibitions said, “The prospect of collaborating with of each of these newly selected artists is very exciting; their work is compelling and each of their exhibitions will challenge, intrigue and engage the public.”
From the record number of submissions to the call for proposals, the jury also recommended five artists for another revived NBM series, MEET THE ARTISTS. This second series of smaller, focused solo exhibitions, is designed to introduce the work of artists who have not previously exhibited at the NBM.
The five artists who will be featured in the MEET THE ARTISTS series are:
Ginette Kakakos Aubin (Sainte-Julienne, QC); Marjolaine Bourgeois (Moncton); Sylvie Pilotte (Dalhousie); Barbara Safran de Niverville (Riverview); and Istvan Zsako (Baie Verte).
The NBM thanks all the visual artists for their submissions to the program, and congratulates the nine visual artists whose proposals were chosen for development over the coming months.
