Artist to be “In Residence” at the New Brunswick Museum

NB Arts has provided funding for visual artist and art educator Peggy Woolsey to be “in residence” in the galleries at the New Brunswick Museum, from November to February. Woolsey will create works of art reacting to and inspired by the Museum galleries and collection.

During her residency Woolsey will also interact with Museum visitors, providing them with insights into her creative process and the techniques and media she uses. She notes that visitors often use primarily the sense of sight in their Museum explorations. She hopes that, through contemplation of an object, “sensations of touch, smell, taste and sound will also be evoked to deepen the experience, creating new views of these special objects.”

A monthly schedule of dates and times Woolsey will be in residence is posted in the Museum and available on its website www.nbm-mnb.ca Woolsey will also conduct a series of workshops to share her methods on Thursday evenings in February.

Peggy Woolsey’s career as a professional artist and educator spans over 20 years. She has taught adults as well as students at all levels, and currently teaches art at Kennebecasis Valley High School. Her formal education includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University, a Bachelor of Education from McGill University and a Master of Education in Curriculum Development from the University of New Brunswick. Her paintings have been presented in solo and group exhibitions. Through this residency, she hopes to deepen her artistic practice by looking more deeply at important objects and giving them additional layers of meaning.

New Brunswick Museum CEO Jane Fullerton commented that “the Museum appreciates the financial support for this project from Arts NB, which will enable us to provide a new experience for visitors to the Museum galleries over the coming months.”
