Celebrating 40 Years: New Brunswick Art Bank Anniversary Exhibition opens at the New Brunswick Museum

The New Brunswick Art Bank is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a travelling exhibition Celebrating 40 Years: New Brunswick Art Bank Anniversary Exhibition.  The exhibition is visiting the New Brunswick Museum from March 14 to April 30, 2009.

Celebrating 40 Years features a selection of artwork by prominent New Brunswick artists whose works have been collected by the Art Bank. Over 48 artworks in a variety of media spanning the early 20th century to the present are showcased.  Some of the artists include:  Fred Ross, Miller Brittain, Tom Forrestall, Ghislaine McLaughlin, Ned Bear, Jacques Arsenault, and Alexandra Flood.

The New Brunswick Museum is the third stop for the exhibition travelling to six venues in the province during 2008 and 2009, including those in Fredericton, Moncton, Caraquet and Campbellton.

The New Brunswick Art Bank, first provincial art bank in Canada, was created in 1968 by the province to recognize and support New Brunswick artists by building a collection of visual art unique in Canada. The Art Bank celebrates the artwork of exceptional artists who are recognized provincially, nationally, and internationally. Today the Art Bank has more than 700 artworks representing more than 300 anglophone, francophone, and Aboriginal artists.

"It is a tremendous pleasure for me to congratulate the New Brunswick Art Bank on its 40th anniversary," said Premier Shawn Graham. "New Brunswick artists and creators play an important role in the cultural life of the province, and their passion is an inspiration to all of us. I invite all New Brunswickers to join me in celebrating this important anniversary and discovering our talented and creative visual artists who, through their work, enhance our quality of life."

Celebrating 40 Years: New Brunswick Art Bank Anniversary Exhibition continues at the New Brunswick Museum until April 30, 2009.
