Discover The Spirit of L’Acadie March 15 at the New Brunswick Museum


Discover the history and stories of L’Acadie at the New Brunswick Museum Sunday, March 15 with a special presentation by Jeanne-Mance Cormier, Curator of the Musée acadien at the Université de Moncton.  The Spirit of L’Acadie will be presented in French at 1:30 pm and in English at 2:30 pm.  After the presentation, visit the exhibition L’Esprit de Grand-Pré, and meet the New Brunswick Acadian artist, Georgette Bourgeois.  All are welcome; regular Museum admission.

Jeanne-Mance Cormier has worked at the Musée acadien at the Université de Moncton for 20 years; curator since 1992. Her professional interests primarily involve research in material culture, museum management, adult education and interpretation. Based on her knowledge of Acadian historical and cultural collections, Ms. Cormier's research delves into the historical, social and political events that have impacted Acadian history.

As part of her work at the Musée acadien, in addition to guiding countless tours from schools, Ms. Cormier has organized and delivered a number of educational workshops and lectures. She is currently working on a research project on transmission of the Acadian history and culture through l'Alliance de recherche universités-communautés (ARUC) titled Les Canadiens et leurs passés ("Canadians and Their Past").  She is also completing research for an exhibit on lobster fishing in the Maritimes scheduled to go on display in the early summer of 2009.

Highly active in the museum community both in New Brunswick and nationally, she has served in provincial and Canada-wide associations since the early days of her career. She was a member of the task force contributing to the development of New Brunswick's cultural policy.

The exhibition L’Esprit de Grand-Pré continues at the New Brunswick Museum until April 12, 2009.
