March Break Mania! Fun for the Whole Family at the New Brunswick Museum


March Break Mania! is about to begin at the New Brunswick Museum. From March 1 to 9, there will be lots of great activities for everyone, celebrating the theme Winter Fun in New Brunswick . A daily lineup of entertaining, informative and unique activities promises great family enjoyment.

Special activities throughout the week include interactive tours, educational craft and art projects, baking activities, scientific experiments, and games. Explore our distant past when mastodons roamed our province; discover how skaters used our rivers for transportation in the 1800s; enjoy indoor winter fun from the 1950s; learn how different animals adapt to winter and why oceans don't freeze.

Daily highlights from March Break Mania! include:

Monday, March 3 - Skating Through New Brunswick's Past – “Join us on the River” tour will explore New Brunswick's skating past including its use as a method of transportation; bake molasses cookies and discover some sweet history; enjoy creating “Skating People” that will move with a little magic! (Repeated on March 8 and 9)

Tuesday, March 4 - Animals in Winter – Find out how different animals adapt to winter; create your own snow goggles like the ones used by early New Brunswickers; make and enjoy a taste of home-made ice cream.

Wednesday, March 5 - Indoor Winter 50s Fun – Try to name the Mystery 1950s objects; see the animated Dungarvon Whooper legend in action; play a game of giant scrabble, bingo or marbles.

Thursday, March 6 - NB Too Cool - When Mastodons Walked the Province – Discover what New Brunswick was like when mastodons roamed; bake some Mastodon dung balls; create your own Mastodon trunk. (Repeat of March 1)

Plus the Robert Bateman Get to Know Writing and Art Contest launch, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Come learn how you can enter this national youth writing and art contest. Try your hand at wildlife art with artist David Strickland. Free admission, refreshments and prizes.

Friday, March 7 - An Ocean Home - Anyone up for a Winter Swim? – Discover why the oceans don't freeze; bake whale cookies; find out what a Scrimshander is and make your own Scrimshaw art.

Saturday, March 8 (Explorer Saturday) and Sunday, March 9- Skating Through New Brunswick's Past – “Join us on the River” tour will explore New Brunswick 's skating past including its use as a method of transportation; bake molasses cookies and discover some sweet history; enjoy creating “Skating People” that will skate with a little magic! (Repeat of March 3)
