Archeological Survey finds Artifacts at NB Museum Collections and Research Centre Site

This week, as part of the investigation for the proposed renovations of the New Brunswick Museum Collections and Research Centre on Douglas Avenue in Saint John, an Archaeological Survey was completed. During the survey, approximately 170 First Nations artifacts as well as a similar number of 18th and 19th century artifacts were found in an area being tested for the potential expansion. The site, a terrace, is adjacent to the former route of the Reversing Falls Portage, where archaeological work during the mid-20th century had previously identified archaeological sites. A First Nations Archaeologist was on site observing all testing work.
A detailed report of the findings is now being prepared. More information is expected to be available in August.
