Aquila Tours & New Brunswick Museum Win TIANB Tourism Industry Product Development Award for “Whale of a Time” Disney Port Adventure

Saint John (NB) – On Thursday evening, Aquila Tours and the New Brunswick Museum received the Tourism Industry Product Development Award. The award, given by TIANB (Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick) during the Gala Banquet of their Annual Conference, acknowledges the innovation and success of the 2012 Whale of a Time tour which was designed exclusively for Disney Cruise Line.

The Whale of a Time tour truly was an exercise in excellent partner collaboration between Aquila Tours and the New Brunswick Museum, along with support from Disney Cruise Line and the Port of Saint John. The tour featured a number of elements, including: Bay of Fundy education with interpreters at the New Brunswick Museum, painting of tiles used in a beautiful whale mosaic created by Saint John artist Sheryl Crowley, and the "adoption" of endangered North American Right Whales by Aquila.

The end result is a beautiful piece of public art for Saint John, created with the help of visiting children from the Disney Magic, which commemorates the inaugural season of Disney Cruise Lines in Saint John. The piece was exhibited in the New Brunswick Museum as it was built during the 2012 cruise ship season, and it is now permanently displayed in Saint John’s Diamond Jubilee cruise ship terminal – a lasting reminder of Disney Cruise Line’s inaugural season in Saint John.

Aquila Tours, a New Brunswick Tour Operator for more than 30 years, has been offering shore excursions to the cruise lines in Saint John for more than 20 years. They have become known for their innovative shore excursions, and have developed strong strategic partnerships for shore excursion delivery with key partners, such as the New Brunswick Museum. The New Brunswick Museum, one of New Brunswick’s top tourism attractions, is New Brunswick’s provincial museum, which, through collections, research, and interpretation, works to engage people and foster a greater understanding and appreciation of New Brunswick’s cultures and natural environment.
